One of the earliest names I ever heard as associated with supporting women’s ordination and call to ministry was Rev. Dr. Jann Aldredge-Clanton. I was just in college then when I heard that she articulately defended women’s place in ministry. When I grew up I learned that Jann remained one of the leading voices for women’s access and equity in the church. I am deeply grateful for her books, hymn writing, and tireless advocacy for a gender-inclusive theology and churches.
Here is Jann’s endorsement of the State of Clergywomen in the U.S.
“In this report Rev. Dr. Campbell-Reed combines thorough research, helpful charts, insightful analysis of statistics, and challenging questions for various groups committed to advancing womenโs leadership in the church. This outstanding report comes at a crucial time when women are increasing our resistance to the stifling of our voices in church and society.
“The report will be especially useful to Equity for Women in the Church as we move forward to fulfill our mission of facilitating equal representation of clergywomen as pastors of multicultural churches in order to transform church and society. I highly recommend โState of Clergywomen in the U.S.โ to seminaries, churches, denominations, clergywomen, theologians, and others dedicated to gender equity
and justice.”
